Mentioned on Steve Ball's Music Diary blog as a CD that would come with the book Sonification and Sound Branding, documenting the process behind the creation of the Windows Vista startup sound. The CD was planned to include several alternate startup sounds that were not selected. Neither the book or CD were ultimately released.

According to an article on Fast Company, sound designers of candidate sounds include but are not limited to Robert Fripp, Pat Mastelotto, Tucker Martine, and Randy Thom.
