The Lost Ship EP is a collection of never before published FTL music. The first two tracks, Lost Ship Live and Mantis Live, are polished versions of pieces I performed at my live shows from 2016-2018. They both sound similar to the original tracks from the game, but I take them to new and interesting places.

The next three tracks, Merchants, Electric, and Battle, were made for FTL all the way back in 2011 & 2012, but were ultimately cut from the game. I recently rediscovered them when I powered up my old laptop for the first time in over a decade. Merchants and Electric, made to be exploration music, were both completed in mid-2012, and I never made Battle versions of them. Their names are the original placeholders from when they were first completed.

During development, I came up with FTL's Explore/Battle music system after we found out that most battles lasted less than a minute. Switching to different tracks so frequently would sound awkward. Track #5, Battle, was written before I came up with the dynamic system. In fact, it was finished in December 2011, which means that the only FTL piece older than it is the title music. You can tell from Battle's sound that I hadn't quite figured out what FTL's musical style would be at the time.

For the last piece, I took the original Merchants and tried to expand on it with my current skills in 2025, while keeping the synths, instruments, and techniques I used for FTL 14 years ago. It was really fun to return to FTL's sound after so long.
